Christantus Uche Sparks Dominant Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal straight entry to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This occasion offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, scoring for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were no match against a largely second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Control Established from the Start
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to find his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
