He said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however emphasised that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”
